North Koreans commemorate late leader Kim Jong Il’s seventh death anniversary

North Koreans marked the seventh anniversary of the late leader Kim Jong Il’s death. In video provided by the North’s official news agency KCNA, which cannot be independently verified by Reuters, Pyongyang residents including soldiers were seen laying flowers at the statues of Kim Jong Il and the state’s founder Kim Il Sung on Mansu Hill in Pyongyang. Floral basket bearing the name of his son, the North’s current leader Kim Jong Un, was also displayed in front of the statues. Kim Jong Il is believed to have died due to medical conditions exacerbated by a heart attack on December 2011.
