At least six killed after ferry capsizes in Kinniya, Sri Lanka

At least six people, including four school children, were killed and scores missing after a ferry capsized in eastern Sri Lanka on Tuesday (November 23), officials said.

Sri Lanka navy officials and divers conducted a search and rescue operation after the incident, authorities said.

The ferry was was traveling from Kurinchakeni to the town of Kinniya along the country’s eastern coast, a navy spokesperson said.

The navy said 17 people have been rescued so far and five bodies were found. The boat can carry between 25-35 people, the navy said.
