Wuhan’s business districts remain deserted during the city’s lockdown due to China’s coronavirus outbreak in late January.

Guanggu Shopping circle and Wushang Plaza remained shut on Wednesday (February 26) due to Chinese authority’s strict requirements to ask citizens to stay at home and reduce public activity for virus prevention.

The coronavirus has already killed more than 2,700 people across China, leaving more than 78,000 people infected globally as of February 27.

The epidemic in China peaked between Jan. 23 and Feb. 2 and has been declining since, said the World Health Organization (WHO). China’s actions of locking down cities and severely restricting the movement of people has probably prevented hundreds of thousands of cases, it said.

U.S. President Donald Trump will seek $2.5 billion (£1.93 billion) from Congress to fight the coronavirus epidemic and U.S. and South Korean militaries are considering scaling back joint training as the virus spreads in Europe and the Middle East.
