15 schools in Colombo will be kept closed on Monday

The Education Ministry has announced that 15 schools in the Colombo District including government, private and international schools will remain closed on Monday the 03 of February due to rehearsals for the Independence Day celebrations.

The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils & Local Government informed the Ministry of Education that the 72nd Independence Day celebration is to be held at Independence Square on February 04th and that the final rehearsals of the parades will take place on Monday morning.

15 schools in Colombo will remain closed on Monday in order to minimize possible traffic congestion as a result of this.

They are D.S. Senanayake College, Royal College, Thurstan College, Yasodara Vidyalaya, Musaeus College, St. Bridget’s Convent, Lady’s College, the Colombo International School and t2he Wycherley International School.

In addition several other schools will also remain closed on Monday as they will be used to provide accommodation to security forces personnel participating in the rehearsals:

They are Mahanama College, St. Michael’s College, St. Mary’s Convent, Mihindu Maha Vidyalaya, Al-Hidhaya College and Asoka College.

The Ministry of Education has instructed the heads of these schools to cover the studies that will be missed by students due to this closure on another date.
