Health sectors emphasize that no one should fear of corona. If infected it can be treated

Health Sectors have emphasized that there is no need to fear about the coronavirus. The identified patient has recovered. The health department pointed out that there is no issue in providing treatment if more patients are detected. Sri Lankan students in Wuhan too are in good health condition. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus deaths has risen to 213. Approximately 10,000 people are infected.

Health Sectors point out that the coronavirus has not spread in Sri Lanka There is no problem with the day to day activities of the people. The health authorities further emphasized that there is no possibility to the spread of the disease from the Chinese woman who had been infected with the virus.

Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Physiologist of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases said that the patient detected with the virus is recovering. It has also been found that no other patients have been detected from all the suspected cases. The husband of the woman who had contracted the virus was examined and it had been found that he is not infected with the disease. As such the virus has not been reported from Sri Lanka other than the woman who had come from China. As such it is not necessary to entertain unwanted fear. A meeting was also slated to be held this evening under the patronage of the Health Minister to have further discussions on this issue.

Specialist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera mentioned that there is no danger to Sri Lanka as a result of the virus. As such he said that the people in the country should not have any unnecessary fear. He called on the people to engage in their normal day to day activities. If this virus enters the country and if there is a danger of the virus spreading among the people would be informed and the Health Ministry would take all necessary initiatives in this respect.

Acting Sri Lankan Ambassador in China K.K. Yoganathan said that no Sri Lankan students in Wuhan, China have been infected with the coronavirus. He said that he expected a positive response soon with respect to the evacuation of these students.

Children in the Wuhan Province needed some items. Discussions were held and their requirements met. Yesterday the students had gone out and obtained their requirements. As such he mentioned that he could say with full trust that all the students are good health.

A new software with nanotechnology has been developed to prevent the coronavirus spreading in the country.

Manju Gunawardena, Director of the Homagama Nano Technology Institute said that the Nano Technology machine developed by them has been installed at the Katunayake International Airport. If there is any virus in the body of a person the machine could detect it.

Although face masks were not required, there was a shortage of these masks all over the country as everyone wanted to buy them. The Government had to impose a control price of 15 rupees. However, the Private Pharmaceutical Owners Association stated at a news conference in Colombo that there is no shortage of face masks.

Chandika Gankanda, President of the Private Pharmaceutical Owners Association said that although the Health Minister has given orders, permission had been sought to get down masks from abroad. Three importers have made arrangements to get down millions of masks to the country. As such it would be possible to provide masks to the people at a concessionary rate.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization yesterday decided to declare a global emergency with the spread of the coronavirus. Although the virus has been found in many countries, no deaths have been reported in any country except China. The US State Department issued a statement warning its people to refrain from traveling to China.
