Egypt unveils 2,500-year-tombs of high priests in southern city

Egypt unveiled a new archaeological discovery in the southern governorate of Minya, including 16 communal tombs belonging to the high priests of god Djehuty and senior officials of the late period. Nearly 20 sarcophagi were unearthed at the tombs located in al-Ghoreifa archaeological site and dating back almost 2,500 years.
In addition, 10,000 ushabti figurines, 700 amulets, pottery vessels, and canopic jars were discovered. Egyptian antiquities officials hope Minya, the ancient southern city that was once the country’s capital during the rule of Pharaoh Akhenaten and home to ancient archaeological sites, would bring much-needed tourism revenues.
