‘Saubhagya’ National Programme on Harvesting and Cultivation launched

The ‘Saubhagya’ National Programme on Harvesting and Cultivation was launched today. The ceremony, known as the ‘Harvest Festival’, was held at the Deewela paddy fields in Kegalle. It was chaired by Minister Chamal Rajapaksa. Parallel to this, the cultivation of fallow lands was also launched.

The cultivation of fallow paddy lands is one of the main projects of the country to build a fertile land. The cultivation of fallow lands ceremonially commenced amidst the blessings of the Maha Sangha,. The project commenced with the cultivation of the Deewela paddy field in Kegalle which had been in ruins for 15 years. The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Rural Development and the Department of Agrarian Services intervened in this regard.

Minister Chamal Rajapaksa handed over the heritage of cultivation of fallow lands to the modern generation. Subsequently all joined together to cultivate paddy. The Minister commenced the cultivation of a bee tree which has been used as a pesticide since ancient times.

The harvesting of paddy lands in the country commenced today. The media sponsor of the Crop Saubhagya National Festival is the Independent Television Network.
