Shanghai rolls out temperature screening at railway station to control virus spread

Shanghai Railway Station has rolled out temperature checks and thermal screenings on passengers entering and leaving the city in its bid to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
Travellers arriving or leaving by rail in Shanghai wore masks and had to undergo checks for high temperatures by medical staff before being allowed to leave the station.
Li Hong Yan, 50, who celebrated Chinese New Year with her family in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, said she felt at ease on the train to Shanghai as all travellers were made to take their temperature twice, once each when getting on and off the train. She continues her trip back to Harbin in northeast China.
China’s National Health Commission said that the total number of confirmed deaths from the coronavirus in the country has risen by 38 to 170 as of end-Wednesday, as the number of infected patients rose by more than 1,700.
The commission said in a statement there were 7,711 confirmed cases as of end-Wednesday, with an additional 12,167 suspected cases.
