Hong Kong rail station nearly empty as fears grow over coronavirus

Hong Kong’s high speed railway appeared largely empty of passengers, as the financial capital announced the imminent closure of cultural and recreational facilities and announced that the majority of civil servants would be asked to work from home. The newly-identified coronavirus is believed to have originated late last year in a Wuhan market illegally selling wildlife. Much is not known, including how easily it spreads and just how deadly it is. Travel in Beijing and Shanghai has also stalled dramatically, while Hong Kong has banned all visitors from the Hubei province. The virus has spread to more than 10 countries including Australia, South Korea, Japan and the United States. On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump offered China “any help that is necessary” to control the virus.
