Health sectors are on alert to contain corona

Steps have been taken to increase health protection of the people after identifying a person infected with the coronavirus in Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Health has taken steps to spare 12 hospitals including the Angoda Infectious Diseases Institute to deal with the virus. Two 24-hour hotline numbers were introduced today to learn more about the corona virus. Meanwhile, China has accelerated its prices of medical research to find contain the coronavirus. Nearly 60 hospitalized in China for inflicting with the disease have recovered, according to media reports. 106 deaths were reported due to the virus spread in China.  The number of infected people exceeds four thousand. The Wuhan city has still banned public transport and public gatherings.

At the same time, special measures have been taken to improve the psychological state of the isolated people in the city of Wuhan. The dedicated hospital for Corona patients in Wuhan is in the offing and one of the wards of the planned hospital has already been finished. The mayor of Wuhan said that although the virus had been reported in Wuhan in December, the Chinese government ignored it. The Mayor and his group have also resigned from their position due to the inability of the officials to  tame the situation.  Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe stated that several hospitals including the Gampaha ,Negombo , Kandy ,Karapitiya hospitals have been earmarked to treat the possible patients in addition to the Angoda Infectious Diseases Institute. He further stated that steps have been taken to ensure protection of the health staff who would be engaged in treatments. Anil Jasinghe told the media that a technical circular has been issued containing information ranging from the spread of the virus to treatments. The Government Medical Officers’ Association stated at a press conference held today that the current situation in the country is not dangerous.

Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi states that on the instructions of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa all sections have been briefed to take necessary measures to control the situation.
