Eight dead, dozens injured in Czech fire

A fire in a home for people with disabilities killed eight people and injured 30 in northwest Czech Republic. The blaze occurred in a home where mostly men lived, in Vejprty about 130 km northwest of Prague on the country’s border with Germany. Police said the home had 35 residents, adding that eight residents died and 27 were injured. One police officer and three of the home’s staff were also injured.
At the same time, a fire on a pipeline owned by Nigeria’s state oil company in the commercial capital Lagos killed three people. The blaze broke out in the Abule-Egba district of the southwestern megacity. A Reuter’s television camera operator counted three dead bodies at the scene. The fire burned nearby houses and vehicles. Another witness, resident Ayo Adewale, said there were “many dead people”. Reuters was unable to verify the claim.
