Today is the 121st birthday of the late Prime Minister S.W.R.D Bandaranaike.
A special ceremony was held in front of the Bandaranaike statue in Galle Face Green to mark the birthday of the late Prime Minister. The fourth Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, SWRD Bandaranaike, was shot dead by an assailant in 1959. He was the founder of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. The Former Prime Minister played a huge role in making the Sinhala language the official language, establishment of the Employees’ Provident Fund and strengthening diplomatic relations with countries such as China and Russia. His 121st birthday commemoration was held under the patronage of former President Maithripala Sirisena. A group of ministers and public representatives paid floral tributes to the statue.
