Bulgaria crash out of ATP Cup

Bulgaria crashed out of the ATP Cup after Grigor Dimitrov was involved in successive defeats against Belgium in Sydney, Australia, allowing Great Britain to qualify. Bulgaria came into their final Group C tie unbeaten following wins against Great Britain and Moldova, knowing a win over Belgium would secure their place in the quarter-finals. They were given the perfect start when Dimitar Kuzmanov thrashed Steve Darcis 6-0 6-3 and Bulgaria appeared to be well on the way to victory in the tie when Dimitrov led David Goffin by a set, but the Belgian fought back to win 4-6 6-2 6-2 to level the tie at 1-1. In the deciding doubles, Dimitrov partnered Alexandar Lazarov against Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen. The Bulgarians again took the opening set, but Belgium came through to win 3-6 6-4 10-7.With Great Britain having beaten bottom team Moldova 3-0 earlier in the day, the results meant that Britain took top spot from Belgium, with Bulgaria third.
