Australia’s capital shrouded in thick smoke from bushfires

Australia’s capital covered in thick smoke from fires burning across the east coast as the city reaches hazardous air quality levels . The IQAir Visual website, which collates global air quality information, ranked Canberra’s air quality as the worst in the world, above the likes of cities in India and China. The nation’s postal service, a number of medical procedures and many other businesses in the city suspended services due to staff and patient safety concerns. Fuelled by searing temperatures and high winds, more than 200 fires are now burning across the southeastern states of New South Wales and Victoria, threatening several towns.
