Customs officials say scanning equipment will not adversely affect human life

The officials of the Customs Department emphasize that the newly installed scanning equipment will not adversely affect human life.

Media Spokesperson of the Customs Department Sunil Jayaratne stated that 4 scanners have been installed by the Rapid Scan Company. The company specialists have certified that the installation process was carried out properly.

The Director General of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Council has also attested that the effects of the scanners to human body are negligible. The conducted experiments have revealed that 0.05 micro sevens emitted by the scanners pose no real danger.

He highlighted that Union Representatives and the Lorry drivers and other parties are under a wrong impression. The spokesman added that this is a national project which will be vital to bar the illegal drugs and weapons from entering the country.

Acting Secretary of the Container Drivers’ and Assistants’ Association W. Dharmadasa said that the myths regarding harmful radiation have been dispelled.
