Japan gives 110 million rupees for demining

Japan has been committed to the humanitarian mission of removing landmines in the districts of Mannar and Vavuniya.
Japan has decided to donate 110 million rupees to the Mines Advisory Group to assist the removal of landmines in the North. MAG is an organization that has been successfully removing the landmines in Sri Lanka. The agreement was signed at the Japanese embassy.
MAG Sri Lanka organization along with the Japanese Government has removed around 12,000 landmines in Sri Lanka. The resettlement process in Mannar, Mullaitivu and Vavuniya has also been eased by the demining process. By next year Sri Lanka is expected to be free of landmines.
