Adolescents not doing enough exercise, risking obesity and heart disease

A World Health Organization-led study found, teenagers worldwide are jeopardising their current and future health by failing to take enough exercise to reduce their risk of obesity and cardiovascular diseases. The study is based on data collected from 1.6 million teenagers from 146 countries going to school and aged 11 to 17 years old, and covers a period between 2001-2016. The study found that more than 80% of these adolescents did not meet recommendations for at least an hour of physical activity a day, which is the minimum amount of activity teenagers have to practice daily to enjoy health benefits, including improved heart, lung and muscle fitness, bone health, and positive effects on weight, benefits which can be continue into adulthood.
