India’s Modi inaugurates route for Sikhs to travel to shrine in Pakistan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first group of Sikh pilgrims crossing into Pakistan to visit a temple, following a border crossing agreement between India and Pakistan. During the official opening ceremony for the crossing, Modi thanked his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan for “understanding Indian sentiments and acting accordingly”. Despite the opening of the border crossing, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said relations had not been as strained as they are now since the two sides battled on their border for months in the northern area of Kargil in 1999.
