An interim account for the first four months of budget presented in Parliament

Minister MangalaSamaraweera presented an interim account for the first four months of budget for next year.

Minister Samaraweera noted that this is not the first submitting a partial budget to parliament. He highlighted that usually the budget proposals were presented in the House in November. But the budget for year 2019 was delayed due to the constitutional conspiracy of the SLPP led by Mahinda Rajapakse staged in October last year. Meanwhile, COPE Chairman Sunil Handunneththi requested the Attorney General’s Department officials to participate in the COPE Committee and the Public Accounts Committee. He said that by doing so, it would be helpful to take legal action against corruption and fraud. The COPE committee presented its report to parliament today. Addressing the House Sunil Handunneththi said that people have reposed trust on the COPE. He noted that but the General Public is curious about the action taken against the corrupt elements. He pointed out that if officials of the Attorney General’s Department attend the COPE committee, action against them can be taken expeditiously.
