Petition challenging Gotabhaya’s Sri Lankan citizenship fixed for next month

The Appeals Court today ordered four parties to present to the judiciary immediately if they possess the passport and national identity card of former Defence Secretary and Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka PodujanaPeramunaGotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The Appeals Court issued this order to the Controller of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, The Commissioner of the Department of Registration of Persons, the Minister of Public Administration and the Secretary of this Ministry. The documents related to the national identity card and the passport of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa were presented to the related parties by the Attorney of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
A writ petition has been filed in the Appeals Court challenging the validity of the Sri Lanka Citizenship of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. This petition is due to be taken up for consideration on the 02nd of next month in the presence of a three judge bench comprising President of the Appeals Court YasanthaKodagoda, ArjunaObeysekara and Mahinda Samayawardena.
This petition has been filed by civil activists Professor Chandragupta Thenuwara and GaminiViyangoda.
