The Prime Minister responds to the allegations.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that he has not sent letters to anyone requesting to appoint either Dilrukshi Wickremasinghe or any other person as a Supreme Court Judge.
The President recently charged the Prime Minister in regard to the conduct of former Bribery Commissioner Dilrukshi Dias Wickremasinghe. In a special statement today, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe responded to these allegations.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe highlighted that in case of appointing Supreme Court judges, in accordance with the country’s constitution, only the Chief Justice and the Attorney General has powers to make nominations to the President. The Prime Minister said that he has not violated the country’s constitution at any circumstances. He added that the Attorney General has already asked the Public Service Commission to carry out an impartial inquiry into the telephonic conversation of Dilrukshi Wickremasinghe. The inquiry should be expedited and can be learned about the politicians who had exerted influence on Dilrukshi Wickremasinghe through the inquiry. He pointed out that it is unclear why the President is making allegations against him after declaring a Presidential election. The Prime Minister said that if the President is skeptical about him or his cabinet, it is better to discuss such matters in cabinet. Otherwise it would tarnish best practices in democracy. The Prime Minister emphasized that he will not respond to future allegations would be levelled at him, without following the proper channels.
