Greta Thunberg to U.N.: “We young people are unstoppable”

Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg told a U.N. Youth Summit that Friday’s coordinated strikes around the world calling for action against climate change showed that young people are “united” and “unstoppable.” With world leaders about to gather in New York for a UN Climate Action Summit next week, a youth panel addressed the assembly to demand urgent measures to stop environmental catastrophe. U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres said it was for him an “enormous pleasure to be a keynote listener” and encouraged young activists to continue to hold leaders accountable.

Meanwhile, French police fired tear gas and dispersed a group of “black bloc” anarchists who disrupted a climate march in Paris, after a tense morning with “yellow vest” protesters attempting unauthorised rallies on the Champs Elysees leading to over a hundred arrests.

Thousands of climate activists joined by a few hundred “yellow vests” protesters in Paris to demand the French government take greater action on climate change and measures for social justice.
