Former Air Force and Navy Commanders elevated to new positions

Former Air Force and Naval Commanders Roshan Gunatilake and Wasantha Karannagoda were elevated to new positions this morning under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. It was organized at the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Harbour.
Former Chief of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda was today honoured to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet. It is the highest position so far bestowed in the Sri Lankan Naval history to a Navy Commander. The investiture ceremony was held under the patronage of the President.
At this event, Former Chief of the Sri Lanka Air Force Roshan Gunatilake was elevated to the Marshal of the Air Force today. It is also the highest position bestowed on an Air Force Commander in Sri Lanka’s Air Force history. The Gazette Notification in this respect was issued on the 06 of August this year. Earlier such a honorary title was awarded to Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka. He was honoured with the title Field Marshal. These three positions are considered to be the five star positions of the Armed Forces.
