Religiousleaders are vested with a major task of defeating extremism; Archbishop of Canterbury

Archbishop of Canterbury His Eminence Justin Welby has pointed out that religious leaders are vested with a major task of defeating extremism rising up against persons who have extremist views.
The Archbishop of Canterbury expressed this view when he paid courtesy calls on the Malwatte and Asgiriya Mahanayakes. The Archbishop pointed out that there is a danger of extremism mostly becoming popular along with modern technology.

Archbishop Justin Welby was welcomed by the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela and accompanied to the Shrine Room where the Sacred Tooth Relics are placed. He said he is fortunate to have received an opportunity to visit the Dalada Maligawa considered as the heart of the Buddhists.
The main objective of the visit of the Archbishop is to make inquiries into the wellbeing of those impacted by the Easter Sunday attacks and grant them strength to rise up. The religious leaders taking action during this incident earned accolades of the Archbishop.

The Malwatte Mahanayake Thera said that views publicized by extremists groups is a major obstacle for the development of the country. He pointed out that not a single religious scholar endorsed violence. The Mahanayake Thera said that certain persons were making attempts to create a rift between various communities with the aim of earning political mileage.

The Asgiriya Mahanayake Thera pointed out the importance of taking action considering everyone as human beings. He emphasized that it was a small group in society that endorses extremism.
