1.6 billion rupee grant from Japan

The Japanese government will give a grant to the tune of 1.6 billion rupees to implement counter terrorism and national security projects in Sri Lanka.

The grant will be given as a quick response to the national security threat emerged following the Easter Sunday terror attack in Sri Lanka. The relevant documents pertaining to obtain assistance was subject to the cabinet approval. The Japanese government will provide a range of equipment to counter terrorist activities in important places, for instance, the Airport.

The cabinet approval has been granted to change the title of the Sri Lanka National Intellectual Property Office to Sri Lanka Intellectual Rights Department. The aim of the amendment is to address certain issues when dealing with some local and foreign organizations.

The cabinet also granted approval to set up a Debt Regulatory Authority. The new authority will replace current micro finance act and it will be an independent body.

The cabinet has granted is approval to provide compensation to the people who were displaced due to the construction of We-medilla reservoir in the Naa-ula, Gale-wela and Dambulla Divisional Secretariat areas.
