Amazon ablaze as Brazil’s Bolsonaro rages at France’s Macron

Dramatic aerial images showed fires continuing to burn unabated in Brazil’s Amazon region. Brush, trees and vegetation of all types were consumed by the blazes in northwestern Brazil leaving nothing but charred ground and ash in a region more commonly known for its wet, tropical rainforests. Weak rainfall is unlikely to extinguish a record number of fires raging in Brazil’s Amazon anytime soon, with pockets of precipitation through Sept. 10 expected to bring only isolated relief.
Meanwhile, Bolivia’s President Evo Morales joined firefighters in Santa Rosa to help crew put out wildfires. The blazes are burning unabated across vast swaths of hilly tropical forest and savannah near Bolivia’s border with Paraguay and Brazil. At least 1 million hectares have been impacted by the fires. Bolivia late last week contracted a Boeing 747 “Supertanker” from the United States to help with the fire-fighting, and has mobilised more than 2,000 firefighters, as well as small aircraft and helicopters
