La Vuelta teams unveiled with South Americans leading the charge

The top contenders of the 2019 Vuelta a Espana were showcased in Moraira at the official team presentation. South America has become a hotbed of elite cycling in recent years and could be set for a hat-trick of Grand Tour wins as the Vuelta begins with the list of favourites dominated by riders from Andean nations. Nairo Quintana, the 2016 winner, and his Colombian compatriots Miguel Angel Lopez and Esteban Chaves are among the leading contenders for the final Grand Tour of the year, which has been hit by a number of high-profile absences. But Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz, who was also billed as one of the main contenders after his surprise victory at the Giro d’Italia this year, is out of the race after hurting his shoulder.
