Daya Wimalaweera is no more

Veteran cinema artiste Daya Wimalaweera has passed away.

Daya Wimalaweera had been rendered his service as a Cameraman, Movie Editor, Director and a Script Writer. He was 81 years of age at his demise. Daya Wimalaweera is the son of Sirisena Wimalaweera who is one of pioneers in Sinhala cinema. The first direction of Daya Wimalaweera was movie titled ‘Weeduru Geval’ that was screened in 1972. Subsequently he has produced a number of movies including Jeewana Kandulu, Mihidum Sihina, Chaaya, Raja Daruvo, Sujatha, Bambasara Bisavu. It is a salient feature that Daya Wimalaweera was the Cameraman of all the movies he directed. He happened to be the Cameraman of the ‘Rodee Kella’ movie that was directed by his father Sirisena Wimalaweera. Daya had been the Cameraman for a range of movies, for instance Pataachchaara, Sirkuru Liya, Harima Badu Thunak, Miringuwa. The mortal remains are being kept at his residence at Anderson Road, in Kalubowila for public respects. The final rites will be conducted at the Nedimala general cemetery, tomorrow.
