Australia SailGP team sweep the races on the Solent

The Australia team dominated the field with a sweep of the races while becoming the first crew to break the 50-knot speed barrier in the SailGP event in Cowes. Skippered by Tom Slingsby, the Australian team delivered masterclass in extreme conditions on the Solent, which saw U.S. team capsize and the British team abandon racing. Within 30 seconds of the first race starting, the U.S. SailGP Team helmed by Rome Kirby capsized in dramatic fashion. The rest of the international teams then battled it out, before Olympian Dylan Fletcher’s Great Britain SailGP Team took a violent nose dive causing the wing trimmer, Chris Draper, to somersault over flight controller, Stuart Bithell. There was extensive damage to the boat including a hydraulic leak, and whilst the team was unharmed the boat was out of racing for the rest of the day.
