Assets of Zaharan’s group worth 1.13 billion rupees held on court order

The Criminal Investigations Department has said that 1.13 billion rupees in cash and property belonging to the leader of National Thowheed Jammath terrorist group, Mohamed Zaharan, who launched a series of suicide bombings on Easter Sunday, have been held.

CID Director SSP Shani Abeysekara said at a media briefing that the CID has informed the court and the assets have been frozen on the orders of the court.Among the seized assets are one billion rupees worth of property and 130 million rupees in cash and in bank accounts belonging to 41 individuals. Vehicles, houses, factories and gold are among the seized properties.

SSP Abeysekara said that more than 63 members of the terrorist group including women, have been arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday suicide attacks. They are being held under detention orders and further investigations are being conducted.
