British pilots hope to fly around the world in Spitfires

Two pilots set off on an ambitious attempt to circumnavigate the globe in a newly restored Silver Spitfire. Pilots Steve Brooks and Matt Jones set off in the iconic single-engine aircraft from Goodwood Aerodrome in West Sussex in southern England.

The restored Silver Spitfire was commonly used during World War Two by the Allies. The challenge fittingly titled ‘The Longest Flight’ will see the pilots travel a distance of 43,000 km and is expected to take more than four months to complete. According to Jones, their journey will take them past 30 countries many of which would have seen the aircraft during World War Two.
