Maxi Edmond de Rothschild overtook MACIF for a stunning finish to the 48th Fastnet Race. MACIF had led her rival at the start of the day, but Edmond de Rothschild picked up steam and crossed the finish line in Plymouth, England just 58 seconds ahead of the other 32-metre Ultim trimaran.
The opposing trimarans were never more than four miles apart, making for an exciting race that ended with Maxi Edmond de Rothschild setting a multihull race record of 1 day, 4 hours and 2 minutes.
The record size fleet, 388 vessels, makes the Fastnet the worlds’ biggest offshore yacht race with entries from more than 26 countries drawn to what many sailors regard as one of the toughest challenges in the sport.
