Indonesian man walks backwards for 700km to save the forests

Indonesian man Medi Bastoni has embarked on the arduous task of walking backwards from his hometown to the capital, more than 700 km away. He hopes to raise awareness for the devastation left by deforestation in his journey to Jakarta, and get a symbolic seed from President Joko Widodo. The 43-year-old wants to plant that seed on the slope of Mount Wilis, a volcano in East Java province where his hometown is located. Bastoni, 43, started on July 18 and has since completed around 200 km. Carrying only snacks and water in his backpack, Bastoni checks his mounted rearview mirror constantly for obstacles.
