Ex-servicemen’s memorial in Polonnaruwa unveiled

President Maithripala Sirisena unveiled the ex-servicemen memorial built at Polonnaruwa, Laksha Uyana. The memorial has been built in memory of the soldiers who fought in the 2nd world war.
The President paid floral tributes to the ex-servicemen’s memorial built at Polonnaruwa, Laksha Uyana. Thereafter, the war heroes who are living and the relatives of the war heroes who have passed away paid their floral tributes. The President took part in the religious observances to invoke merits on the war heroes. Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena vested with the public the new bridge built across Northern canal of Parakrama Samudraya D-1 connecting Laksha Uyana and Athumal-pitiya. Thereafter, the President presented 21 tokens of appreciations for those who contributed to build the bridge parallel to Gini-petti bridge. This bridge has been constructed parallel to the Gini-petti bridge as it is in a dilapidated condition. The President also attended the function to open ‘Samarupaaya’ built in memory of late Professor venerable Bellanwila Wimalarathana thera. The ceremony was held with the participation of the maha sangha led by the Maha Nayaka of Asgiri chapter most venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana thera.
