South Koreans hold anti-Japan protest amid escalating trade and diplomatic row

Hundreds of South Koreans held a candle light rally to protest against Japan’s decision to remove South Korea from its easy trade list so called ‘white list.’ Protesters holding candles gathered near a “comfort women” statue which depicted a young woman sitting barefoot in a chair and erected near a Japanese embassy in Seoul. The statue commemorates Korean women forced to work in Japanese military brothels during World War Two. Japan removed South Korea from a favored trading nations list, prompting Seoul to warn it would not be defeated again by its neighbor, laying bare decades-old war time animosity.
