The Esala Festival commences on the 3rd of next month

A press conference has been conveyed at the Ministry of Mass Media to educate about the upcoming historical Esala Perahera in Kandy.

The event was presided by Secretary to the Ministry Sunil Samaraweera, Director General of the Government Information Department Nalaka Kaluweva and the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Pradeep Nilanga Dela. Addressing the reporters, Pradeep Nilanga Dela said that erection of Kap will take place at auspicious time of 5.10 a.m. on the 3rd of next month at Sivu Maha Devala. Five Parades will happen at the Sivu Maha Peraheras in between the 2nd and 4th of August. Five Kumbal Peraheras will parade streets from the 5th to 9th of August. The first Randoli Perahera is scheduled to parade on the 10th of August and the final Randoli Perahera on the 14th of August, the full moon poya day. The water cutting ceremony will be held on the following day. The scroll on the successfully completion of the Perahera will be handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena on the same day. The Diyawadana Nilame said that all measures are being finalized to hold the Peraheras on a grand scale. A large number of artistes representing different traditions will feature in the Esala Festival.
