Prime Minister condemns Ranjan’s statement on the Sangha

As the leader of the United National Party Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasnghe said that he vehemently rejects the views expressed by State Minister with respect to the members of the Maha Sangha. The Prime Minister has laid this emphasis directing a missive to Ranjan Ramanayake.
Premier Wickremasinghe pointed out that the views expressed by Ranjan Ramanayake contradicts the views of the party leadership and the party. The Prime Minister in his letter said that traditionally his family members, while working closely with the Buddhist Vihares had made a contribution to build and develop them. The letter has also mentioned that Sivpasa had been offered to a number of Vihares including the Chief Incumbents of the Kelani Raja Maha Vihare and the Gangarama Vihare for their education and other activities with respect to the Sasana.
The Prime Minister emphasized that he strongly rejects the statement made by Ranjan Ramanayake in such a background. The Prime Minister in his missive has further said that he needed a clarification on the views expressed by Ranjan Ramanayake in a letter before the 21st of this month.
