Petroleum unions suspend strike action

Petroleum trade unions have halted trade union action over an oil pipeline dispute. It follows the talks the Trade Union had with Petroleum Minister Kabir Hashim. They have suspended the union action until next Friday night.
The Petroleum Trade Unions Collective commenced union action demanding an immediate end to the balance work of the reconstruction of the fuel tunnel from the Colombo Port to the Kolonnawa terminal.
Accordingly the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation trade unions halted the supply of fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board from midnight yesterday. The Unions had a discussion with Minister Kabir Hashim today. The Minister gave the Unions an assurance that a resolution would be found to the issue after discussions at the Cabinet of Ministers tomorrow. Accordingly the Unions agreed to suspend their strike.
