Notre Dame to hold first mass since April fire

A mass will be held at Notre Dame, the first since a spectacular fire ravaged the roof of the Cathedral two months ago. Only 30 people will take part in the religious service, led by Paris Archbishop Monsignor Michel Aupetit.

They will gather in a small chapel near the garden, in a preserved part of the monument. All participants will have to wear a safety helmet as the site is under construction to consolidate the structure, something that should last several more months.

The fire on April 15 had shocked and touched French nationals as well as people around the world, and donations for the cathedral’s reconstruction have reached nearly $1 billion.
