Private citizens could fly to International Space Station as soon as next year – NASA

First tourists could take off to the International Space Station as early as next year, said NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations, Associate Administrator, Bill Gerstenmaier, during a presser in New York. Gerstenmaier and accompanying him NASA Headquarters chief financial officer, Jeff DeWitt, also said a seat on a rocket right has cost about $80 million dollars, but it’s now coming down to about $58 million for a NASA astronaut. But, they said, NASA’s contractors, Boing and SpaceX, will determine the final cost for civilians.Private astronaut flights will be just one of the component on NASA’s effort to open up the International Space Station to business and build, as DeWitt put it, “grow a very robust space economy” by outsourcing services, research, and other Nasa mission-friendly activities to private companies.
