Suspicious items found in search operations island wide

A lorry that had been linked to Easter Sunday attack was taken into custody at the Sungaa-wila area in Polonnaruwa. The lorry had been hidden in a house in Sungaa-wila. It was found by the STF sleuths who were searching in the area. The owner of the house was also arrested.
Meanwhile, a haul of bombs and ammunitions were seized from a hotel at the Kanaga-raayan-kulam in Vavuniya. The cache of weapons were seized based on a tip-off received by the Police and Army intelligence units.
The security forces apprehended a Municipal Councilor of Kotte, H.M. Ali Uzuman. The security forces initially arrested his brother Raja Mohideen Sulthan with 3 swords and one knife in a search operation conducted in the Sri Jayawardenapura area and the Municipal Councilor was arrested consequently. The police say both of them are members of National Thowheed Jammath.
Meanwhile, four suspects were arrested from Eheliyagoda by Police. They have been identified as residents of Akkarai-pattu and Beruwala. Another 3 suspects of the Thowheed Jammath Organization were arrested in Welimada area with a bundle of leaflets.
Three suspects were nabbed from the Kaduru-wela town in Polonnaruwa. One of the arrested is a member of the National Thowheed Jammath and several computers and documents were seized from them.
Three persons were arrested from the Eyakka-chchi and Dharma-puram areas in Kilinochchi with a stock of army uniforms. The Police found several mobile phones with photographs of the Easter Day attack.
The Police inspected a man who was carrying a suspicious bag at the Belum-mahara junction. As Police reached him, the man had run away leaving the bag at the place. When inspecting the bag, the Police found a duck and hen inside the bag.
Two more suspects were arrested from the Maha-wela area in Wellawaya in a search operation conducted by the Police and the Army. Three suspects were arrested from the Detawa-watta in Giri-ulla with several swords.
Meanwhile, the Police has opened a comprehensive investigation into the apprehension of 600 Army uniforms from Mallawa-pitiya in Kurunegala.
Another suspicious Van with foreign currency had been arrested by the Welimada Police based on a tip-off.
A joint security program has been implemented in the Jaffna Peninsula under the leadership of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi. Accordingly, the Army personnel conducted a special search operation in the Peninsula, today.
The Kekirawa Police has arrested the Van which transported bombers to the Saainda-marudu area in Kalmune.
Several bombs were found in front of the, Janapadaya temple,Godagama in Naaram-mala and they were defused by the forces.
Two Army uniforms have been seized from a security officer attached to the Rantembe Reservoir in Ran-denigala. Following the arrest security has been beefed up at the reservoir. The Police has found a haul of explosives and two detonators from a house at the Dole road in Matale.
Another suspect has been arrested with two swords from the Patana-chur area in Vavuniya. According to Police sources, 30 suspects were apprehended at the search operations conducted in the Vavuniya town. Several stalwarts of the National Thowheed Jammath were nabbed at the Kaattan-kudi area. The suspects were arrested in an operation implemented by the Police. Tri Forces and the STF as a joint operation.
Meanwhile, Media Unit of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce says Media reports that a Coordinating Secretary of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has been arrested in totally false.
The two suspects who were arrested at a Footwear shop in Gampola had received suicide bombing training. It was disclosed when a video depicting them has been found by the security forces.
Chief Magistrate of Anuradhapura, Jaanaka Prasanna Samarasinghe permitted the Police to detain Media Secretary of the National Thowheed Jammath for 72 hours and interrogate him. The suspect was arrested by the Thal-gas-weva Police. END
