Giant panda Yuan Yuan set for 4-year research project in Austria

A giant panda is set to leave its base in southwest China’s Sichuan Province and embark on its journey to Austria Monday as part of a research project between the two countries. Panda Yuan Yuan, a 20-year-old male, has been quarantined at the Shenshuping base of the Wolong National Nature Reserve for a month, as the facility prepares to send him on the trip. The bear, according to its breeder, is a bit naughty but timid, and likes to sleep. Yuan Yuan will be joining another panda Yang Yang which already lives in Vienna, and they will return to China together four years later.
