Copenhagen Zoo giant pandas make themselves at home

Denmark’s Queen Margrethe officially opened the new Panda House at Copenhagen Zoo, which is now home to two giant pandas – five-year-old male Xing Er and four-year-old female Mao Sun.

Since arriving in Copenhagen earlier in the month from Chengdu, China, the two pandas have had some time to get used to their new 1,300 square metre home before the Panda House opens to the public.

According to the zoo, the pandas will live separated, just as they do in the wild.

Danish Crown Princess Mary and China’s ambassador to Denmark, Deng Ying, were also present.Protesters had gathered outside to protest China’s so called “panda diplomacy”.
