Romeo the Sehuencas Water Frog that waited 10 years for this moment, has finally had his “first date” with Juliet

The Sehuencas frog species was in danger as Romeo was the only subject in captivity for a decade.

These frogs live no more than 15 years and as Romeo was found as an adult in Bolivia’s Carrasco National Park, there was a serious risk of extinction.Unable to find funds for an expedition the Alcide D’Orbigny team, with the help of Global Wild Life Conservation, decided to create a profile for Romeo at Match.com to search for a female. After 25,000 dollars and two attempts, a match was found. After various tests and quarantine, finally the moment arrived and Romeo and Juliet had their first encounter under the supervision of the scientist. Romeo and Juliet’s fans will have a chance to tune in once a week on Facebook live to see the pair together, starting on Wednesday, April 3 at 11 a.m. ET.
