‘Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll’ exhibit set to launch at New York’s ‘Met’

Rock and Roll is now as old as many grandparents and so to mark the genre’s historical impact, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is rolling out its first exhibit on the style. Primed to formally open to the public on April 8,”Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll,” features more than 130 instruments and other items dating from 1939 to 2017. To do justice to its star-studded pieces, the Met offered a star-studded preview of the exhibit at its Manhattan location. In attendance were rockers, Jimmy Page, Steve Miller and Tina Weymouth. Also present at the Met was Don Felder of the Eagles, who performed “Hotel California” amid the classic sculptures of the Met in the Met’s Carroll and Milton Petrie European Sculpture Court. The pieces of the exhibit reflect the eclectic influences and history of Rock and Roll.

There are modern items like Lady Gaga’s custom-designed piano. But there’s also Chuck Berry’s electric guitar ES-350T from 1957. Iconic set pieces like that of the Beatles are featured prominently in the exhibit. The exhibit will be open to the public from April 8 until October 1, 2019.
