Lights switched off in Dubai to support Earth Hour movement

Dubai once again showed its support for the annual Earth Hour campaign, by plunging its iconic tower, Burj Khalifa, into darkness at 20:30 sharp on Saturday evening.Ablaze with lights throughout the year, the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, has practiced this voluntary one-hour of darkness, from 20:30 to 21:30, on this special day for the last 12 years, with the purpose of inspiring reflections and actions regarding environmental issues.
Meanwhile,Star Wars fans with glowing lightsabers marched through Manila’s commercial district as shops and restaurants turned their lights off for Earth Hour. Around 100 fans, some dressed as the film franchise’s heroes and villains, the Jedi and Sith, demonstrated their skills in using lightsabers to draw attention to Earth Hour, an annual event that urges individuals to reduce energy consumption by symbolically turning off lights for an hour.

At the same time,Hong Kong switched off its lights across the city for Earth Hour. Earth Hour, an event organised by conservation group WWF, is a global environment movement that aims to raise awareness of global climate change.This year’s theme is was ‘Reduce, Rethink, Change the Way We Live’, and the organisers said the Hong Kong event aimed to put the spotlight on plastic waste, as well as the importance of sustainable living globally.
Lights on landmarks across India were turned off to mark this year’s Earth Hour.

Earth Hour, an event organised by conservation group WWF, is a global environment movement that raises awareness of global climate change.Landmarks like India Gate war memorial in the Indian capital of New Delhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station in the country’s financial capital Mumbai, switched off their lights for the event.This year’s theme is #Connect2Earth hopes to unite millions of people and promote sustainable living.
