Sri Lanka’s first Agriculture Cold Storage Complex

The constructions of Sri Lanka’s first Agriculture Cold Storage Complex were commenced today under the patronage of Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva.300 million rupees under Indian assistance and 200 million rupees by the Sri Lanka Government have been allocated for the project.

The storage complex has the capacity to store 5,000 metric tons of surplus vegetables and fruits. The project is expected to be completed before the end of this year. Plans have been drawn up to build such cold storage facilities in Keppettipola, Jaffna and Embilipitiya areas. Expressing his views on the occasion Minister Harsha de Silva pointed out that a considerable amount of vegetables produced in the country is wasted without being used at present. A large group of people including Indian Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Silpa Kapel Ambule and the Indian High Commissioner Tharanjit Sing Sandu were present on the occasion.
