It is opportune for a broader attitudinal change to overcome the drug menace; President

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the time has come for a broader attitudinal change to overcome the drug problem. He expressed this views joining in a gathering organized to raise awareness on state officials on the Bak Maha Divurama.
The Bak Maha Divurama will be implemented on the 03 of April on behalf of a drug free country with the participation of school children countrywide and the active contribution of heads and employees of all State, Corporation and Statutory Boards representing national, provincial, district and regional levels. A meeting was held today under the patronage of the President at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall to apprive state officials and all others of the programme. It was also joined by all Ministry Secretaries, heads of Statutory Boards, Vice Chancellors of the Universities and heads of media institutions.
Arrangements have been made to hold a brief function at the Colombo Independence Square under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena in view of the Bak Maha Divurama. Its inauguration will be telecast live and all state members will join in this event parallel to the function from their work places. Also all school children countrywide are scheduled to join in this event.
Addressing the gathering the President said that this illegal narcotics racket was unfortunately devastating society today.
The President urged the public to join hands and eliminate the narcotic menace from the country. He drew parallels to the ill-effects of the narcotic menace to that of the destruction caused by terrorists and imperialists in a country. “The anti-narcotic programme will be further strengthened after April 03rd. The police and the Navy will conduct raids in the country
Meanwhile the 36 Annual General meeting of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service Association was also held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Addressing the function held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre the President pointed out that effective changes should take place in the country’s public service in order to surmount the challenges encountered by the country.
