Schurter and Forster retake yellow jersey in Cape Epic mountain bike race

Nino Schurter and Lars Forster of Switzerland reclaimed the yellow leader’s jersey in the fifth leg of the Cape Epic Mountain Bike race despite losing the stage to Philp Buys and Matthys Beukes of South Africa.The fifth stage, also called the Queen Stage, is considered the most gruelling stage as it stretches 100 kilometers (62 miles) through rugged terrain with a 2,859-meter (9,380 foot) climb.Crossing the finish line at 4 hours, 19 minutes and 29 seconds, Buys and Beukes bested Schurter and Forster by just one second.

The Swiss duo still lead overall and are more than 5 minutes ahead of second-placed Manuel Fumic of Germany and Henrique Avancini of Brazil after five stages. Fumic and Avancini finished fourth in Friday’s heat.In the women’s event, Candice Lill of South Africa and Germany’s Adelheid Morath crossed the finish line first, claiming their first stage win at 5 hours 20 minutes and 42 seconds. Mariske Strauss of South Africa and Sweden’s Jennie Stenerhag started the stage with an early lead before falling back after Strauss took a spill.
