Schurter and Forster extend lead in Cape Epic mountain bike race

Nino Schurter and Lars Forster of Switzerland won the first stage of the Cape Epic Mountain Bike race to extend their overall lead.

After winning the prologue in Cape Town, South Africa , the Swiss duo dominated the 111-km stage with 2,700 metres of climb, winning in four hours, 24 minutes, 4.6 seconds, almost three minutes ahead of second placed Manuel Fumic of Germany and Henrique Avancini of Brazil.

Karl Platt of Germany and Austrian Alban Lakata took third place over a minute further back.

There was a similar story in the women’s event, with Annika Langvad of Denmark and Anna van der Breggen of the Netherlands repeating their prologue win with a dominant victory in the opening stage.
